What happens when passionate students from all over Cebu unite for a full day of challenges, collaboration, and creativity?
Thirteen members of Sacred Heart School -Hijas de Jesus Student Council 9th Congress attended Torch It Up! at Cebu International School (CIS) on Saturday, September 13, 2025, wherein 92 students from six private schools in Cebu City gathered for a full-day conference. Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival gave an inspiring message to kick off the day, reminding the participants that today's youth hold the key to the future. To preserve the environment for future generations, he promoted practices such as composting, water conservation, waste segregation, and tree planting. His speech truly inspired all those who were present, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the day. Houses Phoenix, Gryphon, Hydra, Triton, Chimera, Pegasus, and Cerberus were the seven houses into which the participants were split. Together with students from various schools, each house participated in entertaining physical challenges and thought-provoking service projects. The Olympian Quest, a relay race around campus that tested each house's speed, as well as their creativity and teamwork, kicked off the day with energy levels off the charts among all the houses!
The participants then got ready for the Torchbearer Initiative in the afternoon, where they had two hours to create and present creative service projects that complemented the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. When Grade 9 Batch Representative, Ryann Serah Yu, was given the House Captain Award for her leadership and teamwork during the event, it was truly a proud moment. More than just a day of competition, Torch It Up! was a celebration of unity and friendship. The memories formed and the lessons learned made the Student Council 9th Congress come out of the conference inspired, carrying the flame of leadership and service as they go on their separate journeys in life.
