For the month of February, the English and Speech Area of the Junior High School Department at Sacred Heart SchoolโHijas de Jesus organized a series of meaningful activities that promoted appreciation for the English language as a medium of connection and understanding.
As part of the English Week celebration, a seminar-workshop titled โThe Art of Penmanshipโ was held on February 4, 2026, at the Fr. Herranz Hall. The session highlighted the importance of legible cursive handwriting in expressing ideas clearly and effectively. The workshop was led by Mrs. Brenda C. Segura, former JHS English and Speech Area Coordinator and currently the Student Development Center (SDC) and Human Resource Development (HRD) Coordinator, who shared her expertise with Grades 7 to 10 students. Through her guidance, learners gained valuable insights into the role of neatness, coherence, and legibility in written communication.
In todayโs increasingly digitized world, where typing and screen-based communication dominate, the session served as a timely reminder of the enduring value of handwriting. It underscored how cursive writing nurtures focus, fine motor skills, and thoughtful expression, skills that remain essential even amid rapid technological advancement.
The hall resonated with enthusiasm as students actively participated in the activities. The lively atmosphere, marked by eager practice and cheerful interaction, encouraged participants to rediscover the value of cursive writing through a simple yet meaningful alphabet-writing exercise.
While cursive handwriting is often associated with elegance and formality, the workshop emphasized that legibility remains its most essential quality. Though handwriting styles may vary, what truly matters is the ability to express oneself confidently and presentably through clear and readable writing.
